Arrowdawn Gordonians know the score thanks to award-winning ICT specialist

A league-winning Aberdeen cricket club has declared its delight after a welcome delivery – a new £4,000 electronic scoreboard and a three-year shirt sponsorship from Arrowdawn.

The Aberdeen-based communications specialist has provided the scoreboard as the latest enhancement to Arrowdawn Gordonians’ ground at Robert Gordon’s College’s Countesswells facility in the city.

The donation strengthens the link between the resurgent club – which plays in the Strathmore & Perthshire Cricket Union and also has teams in the Aberdeenshire grades – and Arrowdawn. The award-winning company was the team’s shirt sponsor this year.

Club President Andy Lowden said: “This represents the single biggest tangible investment in the club in its history, builds on the continuing support we receive from the school and signals our commitment to improve our product for current players, potential players, supporters and the sport in general.

“Few other clubs at our level have such a resource and our overall facilities at Countesswells are now the envy of many teams around the country. We’re extremely grateful to Arrowdawn for its sustained backing.”

The new scoreboard will replace the traditional manual scoring set-up during matches, providing instant statistical information for spectators and players. Alan Adie, father of Arrowdawn managing director Gordon Adie, was a scorer and historian for the club 30 years ago.

Gordon said: “Gordonians has set its ambitions high in terms of growing the club and achieving greater success – ambitions that match our own business goals – and we’re pleased to be providing extra support in this way.

“Aside from its practical value to Gordonians, the new scoreboard underlines the modern, professional approach that is helping drive the club forward.”

Arrowdawn Gordonians club captain Blair Thomson said: “This is an exciting step forward – and one that will be warmly welcomed by players in particular as a significant new feature of the playing environment. We’re delighted with the new scoreboard and the three-year shirt sponsorship deal.”

Based in the city’s west end, Arrowdawn provides Cisco IP telephony systems, networks and support systems. It is the Cisco Scottish Commercial Partner of the Year and has been shortlisted in two 2010 Northern Star Business Awards categories – Best Use of ICT and Small Business. The winners will be announced at the Press and Journal Arena at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Thursday, September 23.

Arrowdawn Gordonians clinched the Strathmore and Perthshire Division Two title at the weekend with a 100% league record. The club will play in the S&P Division One next season.
